A handy reference to over 100 single-malt Scotches >distilleries< and the general type of Scotch they each make. (NOTE: this IS NOT a listing of individual bottles; its a ranking of the distilleries, based on averaging nearly 50,000 ratings.) There are 14 searchable regions and 10 taste categories.
The program is designed as an introduction to the world of Single Malts.
If you want a good foundation in the world of single-malts, this is a good starting point since each distillery is rated overall.
NOTE: this IS NOT a list of bottles! Its a list of information about the distilleries. Please do not rate this program down because you want it to be a list of bottles.
What it IS: AFAIK, this is the worlds -only- rating of the distilleries themselves. Based on 30 years of drinking single malts; tens of thousands of ratings and reviews; over half a dozen books; and hundreds of magazine articles, this distills (yeah!) out the great from the pretenders. What one brand makes more high-rated bottles than any other? Whats the highest rated distillery in Speyside? Do you like the sherry in Balvenie? What others might you like? How do you pronounce "Bruichladdich" (Brook-laddie).
Other sources can tell you about individual bottles, but thats only part of the story. The real story are the distilleries that create the water of life. "Scotch" tells their story.
(Be sure to check the "About" button: its about Scotch, not the program.)
Learn how to properly pronounce the names of each. There are notes of interest on the distillery, which can include owner, phone number of distillery, whether they offer tours or have a visitor center, and little tidbits for sparking conversation with your single malt friends.
Find your favorite distillery and then easily find others with a similar character. Choose by rating or region, taste or name.
Simple and intuitive interface requires no typing to search.
